What Is Dragonflies Behavior?
There are a number of possible answers to the question, “what is dragonflies behavior”? There is no one answer that fits all of the varied behaviors of dragonflies. In most cases it will take some experimentation by observing and questioning various types of dragonflies behavior in order to come up with a reasonable hypothesis. For instance, if one was wondering what kind of prey dragonflies might prey upon, they might try to get information from an entomologist, who has likely had a bit of experience studying insect behavior.
Another person might suggest that dragonflies have protective instincts, and thus no need for human interaction. This is, after all, what most people would believe to be true. But dragonflies do have feelings and can actually be very sociable and friendly creatures. It would be hard to come up with any physical reason for a dragonfly not to associate with humans; the little creatures seem to be able to sense the emotions of their human companions.
If anyone has a true interest in studying dragonflies behavior, they should keep in mind that it is extremely difficult to observe a real live dragonfly in the wild. Fortunately, they will rarely if ever be seen in the wild, because they are so easy to capture and study in captivity. The best approach, in order to study dragonflies behavior, is to collect a few specimens and set up a situation where you can watch them for a day or so without your presence being apparent. If you are lucky enough to find a dragonfly during one of your casts, you may be able to note the individual’s behavior on paper. This will give you a good starting point when trying to record and document the dragonfly’s habits.
